What the science says
Five positively worded statements to check in on recent mental well-being.
The research
Developed by Per Bech and colleagues in the 1990s and republished by WHO in 2024. Topp and colleagues’ 2015 systematic review included 213 articles examining the instrument’s properties and uses across settings.
What the test explores
Self-reported well-being over the past two weeks. Higher scores indicate higher reported well-being.
The version offered
Five statements about two weeks. The 2024 WHO English form and the 1999 French translation redistributed by WHO, with separate editorial reading aids. An adult experience chosen by mind. Published wording is preserved without retranslation.
What to keep in mind. An index below 50/100 calls for further assessment, not a diagnosis of depression. WHO does not guarantee the accuracy of the French translation. Research on the instrument does not automatically validate this digital interface or a future AI analysis.
